Interlibrary/Interbranch Loan Policy

DEFINED: Interlibrary loan is defined as the loan of materials between SEOLSO and no-SEPLSO librarys. Interbranch loan is defined as the loan of materials between SEPLSO libraries. Interloan includes both of these types.

REQUESTS MAY BE REFUSED: Any SEPLSO library and/or the Service Center may refuse interloan requests for current hilgh demand items, reference materials, materials that are frgile or in poor condition, local history materials, and materials of exceptional nature or value. Wherever pssible, an effort will be made to enstead supply photocopies of the most important portions from such materials.

PAPERBACKS: when a requested mass market paperback with a list price under $6 is in print and readily available from a SEPLSO vendor, purchase rather than interlibrary loan is recommended.

REQUEST LIMITS: a maximum of five interloan requests per day shall be accepted fromm any one patron. A maximum of twenty-five requests per day shall be allowed from any non-SEPLSO library within the service area.

MISUSE: misuse of interlibrary loan shall result in a loss of interlibrary loan privileges. Misuse is defined as unclaimed, lost, damaged, or overdue materials.

GENEALOGY: no patron requests for interlibrary loan of printed genealogu material shall be accepted, except that, where the patron supplies full verification as required by the ALA Interlibrary Loan Code and where the holding library is a known lender of genealogy materials, the request may be processed using standard mail request forms.

REFERENCE & MICROFILM: interbranch loans of reference and micrfilm material shall be for in-library use only, and onlyb at the discretion of the branch librarian.

CHARGES: there shal be a $1:50 charge to SEPLSO patrons for each interlibrary/interbranch loan item received. Patrons shall be required to pay any borrowing fees charged by lending institutions.

LOST ITEMS OUTSIDE SEPLSO: on all material sent outside the system on interlibrary loan that is not returned, the borrowing library shall be responsible for the replacement cost of the material plus a processing fee of $20.00 if it is still in print, or $35.00 if it is out of print. Timely replacement by the borrower of a lost item with and exact duplicate is permitted.

LOST ITEMS WITHIN SEPLSO: for items loaned within the System, lost, and not paid for, the cost of replacing the item shall be charged to the borrowing library.
