The Genealogy Department of Buckley Public Library is sponsored by the Poteau Valley Genealogy Society, which provides volunteers to assist customers with their research.
The genealogical research materials consist of books, microfilm and microfiche from all states as well as Indian, military and immigration records. The on-line services, Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest.com, are made available by the Southeastern Public Library System of Oklahoma to genealogists doing research from within Buckley Public Library. Family history and family charts are also available.
Microfilm copies of much of the early LeFlore county courthouse records are in the genealogy room. These include marriage records, probate records, civil and district court journals and others.
Early LeFlore county newspapers are on microfilm. The many books complied and published by the Poteau Valley Genealogy Society on LeFlore county marriages, cemeteries, census history, etc. are also available. Genealogy materials are non-circulating and for use in the library only.
Hours: The Genealogy Department is open during Buckley Public Library's regular hours.
